A gentle seven-day remembrance

Grief is not a task and this is not a programme. What follows is one small thing to do each evening for the first week, if a small thing would help. Stopping on the second evening is a complete outcome.

  1. Light one, and say their name out loud.
  2. Write down one ordinary thing they did every day.
  3. Find a photograph you had forgotten.
  4. Tell someone one story about them.
  5. Put something of theirs where you will see it, or put it away. Either is fine.
  6. Sit somewhere they used to sit.
  7. Say thank you, and good night.

There is no streak to keep. Some people light one every evening for a week, then not again until a birthday.
